Welcome to the SeaTrac Dashboard! This section will guide you through the process of installing, starting and setting up the Dashboard so you’re connected to a boat. This section relies on an Internet connection to download the installer, and also relies on the Internet to connect to a boat: you’ll need to be online.

Install the Dashboard #

The Dashboard is a native Windows program designed to run on any current system running a 64 bit version of Windows.

1. Download the latest version of the Dashboard installer to your computer and start the installer.
2. Accept the default prompts.
3. Start the Dashboard: the main screen appears.

Setup a boat #

The Dashboard allows you to manage and control one or more boats. To help you get started, the Dashboard installer adds a demonstration boat so you can connect right away and see how things work. If you want to just use the demonstration boat then you’re all set – skip down to the next step: Connect to the boat.

If you have your own boat and want to connect to that instead, then you’ll need to follow some extra steps.

1. First, you’ll need to locate your security key files: these files are provided to you by SeaTrac. There are two files named according to your serial number. If your boat is serial number 1, then the files would be sn1client.pem and sn1client.key. Contact us if you don’t have or can’t find your security key files.
2. Copy your security key files into your keys folder: “C:\dashboard\keys”.
3. In the Dashboard, locate the Boats pane near the top-left of the screen.
4. At the bottom of the Boats pane is a list of available boats: the image below has one boat listed, SN1 (serial number 1). Click the Add New button as shown below:
   
   
   
5. The Boat Information dialog appears:
   
   
   
6. Enter your serial number in the Serial Number edit box.
7. TODO: make Msg Version automatic.
8. Check the Encrypted box.
9. If you plan to connect to your boat using the RF Link then you’ll want to set the RF Link address. Locate your System Info sheet, and near the top you’ll find your Address DL: copy this value into the Address DL edit box and click OK to close the Boat Information dialog.
10. At the top of the Boats pane, use the drop-down to select your boat, instead of the demonstration boat, as shown below.
    
    

Connect to the boat #

Now that we have told the Dashboard which boat we’d like to access, we’re not ready to tell the Dashboard how we want to connect: the options are shown as radio buttons in the Boats pane and include the following:

• RF: connect over the line of sight RF, using an RF Link connected to the laptop
• Cell: connect over the Internet through the cellular link
• PC: connect to the payload computer over its dedicated payload telemetry link
• Iridium: connect with Iridium to the boat’s satellite link

For normal training we use the Internet and the Cell link.
